For the second year in a row, Bvlgari will be the official partner of the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF). Since its debut 21 years ago, SIFF has become China’s premier film festival and is considered one of the biggest cultural events in the Asia-Pacific region—making Bvlgari’s partnership an extraordinary honour. The relationship between Bvlgari and cinema has always been a vibrant one, enriched over the years by the ongoing intersection of film and fashion. As the latest link in this creative legacy, Bvlgari looks forward to taking its role to the next level this year with a spectacular roster of parties, panels, and screenings.

Daring, exuberant, magnificent and oh-so-Italian, Bvlgari has long been associated with cinema, from the silver screen to the red carpet. The relationship began in the 1950s, when Hollywood descended upon Rome’s Cinecittà studios, giving rise to an era of Dolce Vita glamour starring such luminaries as Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, and Ingrid Bergman—who chose Bvlgari as their jeweller. They wore Bvlgari’s magnificent creations on screen and out on the town. These were the beginnings of a celebrity connection that continues to this day. In recent years, Isabelle Huppert, Adrien Brody, Natalie Portman, Shu Qi and Alicia Vikander have all dazzled in Bvlgari.

From Cleopatra to Casino, Bvlgari has starred in some 40 films since the 1950s. But in recent years, its connection to the film world has deepened, with the Roman jeweller taking on a more substantial role. In 2018, Bvlgari became the Official Jeweler of the Tribeca Film Festival and collaborated with Tribeca Studios to produce two original films, which debuted at the festival in April. Featuring extraordinary Italian women, the theme of female empowerment has become central to Bvlgari’s growing influence as a cinematic storyteller. In addition to the films released at the Tribeca Film Festival, Bvlgari was a producer for Italian auteur Yvonne Sciò’s documentary Seven Women, and partnered with French director Julien Landais on his adaptation of Henry James’ The Aspern Papers

From its origins on the banks of the Tiber, Bvlgari’s relationship with the cinema has become a global affair, with the Maison sponsoring festivals such as the Berlinale, the Cannes Film Festival, and La Biennale di Venezia. In light of its multi-faceted and increasingly dynamic connection to filmmaking, this year’s partnership with SIFF feels like a natural next step for Bvlgari.

A Flamboyant Festa BY BVLGARI

For 2018, Bvlgari and SIFF will present the screening unit A Flamboyant Festa by BVLGARI. The series is made up of five classic Italian comedies from the 1960s including “I soliti ignoti”, “Divorzio all’italiana”, “Ieri, oggi, domani”, “Matrimonio all'italiana”, and “II Bell' Antonio”. With their irrepressible humour and effortless charm, these films were critically acclaimed when they premiered, and today are revered for their enduring depiction of what has become an unmistakeably Italian aesthetic.

Sophia Loren stars in two of the films in the series, “Ieri, oggi, domani” and “Matrimonio all'italiana”. Arguably the most famous Italian actress of all time, she was instrumental in introducing an international audience to the charms of Italian cinema—with a little help from the Roman jeweller onscreen and off.

Coming to Shanghai from June 16th through 24th, this year’s SIFF promises to captivate, provoke, and leave audiences wanting more, just as all the best films do. Highlights include a panel discussion the morning of June 19th. Titled “Over 100 Years of Glamour: BVLGARI, Films and Fashion,” the talk will feature panelists from the worlds of film, art, and fashion. Later that evening, guests are invited to the launch party for “A Flamboyant Festa by BVLGARI.” Opening and closing ceremonies bookend the festival, and are sure to glitter with some of Bvlgari’s most magnificent creations.
